Our Story

Access to a Christ-centered, liberal arts education, can change your career. economic wellbeing. physical health. spiritual trajectory. family. local economy. local government.

Africa Nazarene University is the legacy of a praying Church and countless inquiries from young Kenyans to local missionaries saying,
“God is calling me. How do I enroll in college?”

Until 1994, African students had no continental access to a Christian liberal arts higher education. This impact was significant—as of 1980, not even five ordained African Nazarene pastors had finished high school.

Recognizing that the future of the global Nazarene Church must include local ministers, the Church jumped into action, determining to empower not just prospective seminary students but also all African students desiring a liberal arts education.

In August 1994, after more than a decade of preparation, ANU opened its doors to 62 students from 11 African countries—62 students dreaming about changing their worlds through obtaining a higher education.

Since that remarkable day 30 years ago, ANU’s number of graduates has surpassed 13,277. Graduates reside from Kenya to the United States, Australia to Thailand.

What begins at Africa Nazarene University really does transform the world.
